Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed in three-quarter view from the front, with paludamentum visible over the cuirass. The imperial effigy is rendered in the typical provincial style of the Conventus of Apamea. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust, naming the emperor in full titulature. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and hand-struck fabric common to Phrygian civic bronzes of the mid-third century AD.
