正面描述 Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, depicted in three-quarter frontal view with elaborately decorated breastplate. The obverse legend encircles the imperial effigy, identifying the emperor by his full titulature in Greek script. The portrait exhibits the characteristic youthful features associated with Elagabalus's coinage from the eastern mints, with careful engraving of the laurel wreath and military dress.

附加信息

Nysa-Scythopolis — the city used both names interchangeably on its civic coinage — occupied a strategically awkward position during Elagabalus's reign, nominally within the Ephesian conventus but geographically and culturally pulled toward the interior of Asia Minor. The city's claim to the mythological Nysa, said to be the nurse of Dionysus, gave local magistrates ample justification for continued bronze emission even under an emperor whose own solar cult had little patience for competing religious theater.
