Reverse description Demeter portrayed standing facing, her head turned to the left, rendered in long flowing robes in the classical tradition. In her right hand she holds ears of corn, and in her left hand a long torch, both attributes emblematic of her role as goddess of the harvest and the Eleusinian Mysteries. The civic legend of Hieropolis is disposed around the figure in the field, identifying the issuing city.
