| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Maesa facing right, her hair arranged in waves and drawn back, as befitting an Augusta of the Severan dynasty. The portrait is rendered in the conventional provincial style, with drapery visible at the truncation of the shoulder. The encircling Greek legend ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΜΑΙϹΑ ϹΕΒ identifies the subject as the grandmother of Elagabalus and holder of the title Sebaste. The coin's surface bears a deep olive-green patina consistent with prolonged burial. |
