Reverse description Tyche of the city of Edessa is depicted seated left upon a rocky outcrop, holding a small Nike (Victory) figure in her outstretched right hand, emblematic of the city's fortune and divine favour. In the exergue below, a river god swims to the right, personifying the Daisan (Skirtos) river that flowed through Edessa. The composition follows the established Mesopotamian civic reverse type associating the city's tutelary deity with its principal waterway. The reverse legend in Greek naming the colony of Edessa encircles the design.
