| Beschrijving keerzijde | Tyche of Edessa seated left upon a rocky outcrop, her figure draped in the Hellenistic tradition, holding stalks of grain in her outstretched hand. At her feet, a serpent coils to the right, a symbol of the city's protective deity. In the exergue below, the river god Daisan (the Skirtos) is depicted swimming to the right, personifying the local waterway. The Greek civic legend of Edessa, identifying the colony, is arranged around the reverse field. The overall composition reflects the standard iconographic type employed by the colonial mint of Edessa under the Severan dynasty. |
