Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Commodus facing right, with the imperial legend surrounding the effigy in Greek characters. The portrait displays the characteristic features of Commodus as rendered by Alexandrian die-cutters, with the laurel wreath clearly indicated despite the heavily worn surfaces. The legend encircles the bust, reading from the upper left, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The coin exhibits the irregular flan and somewhat rough style typical of Alexandrian bronze coinage of the late 2nd century AD.
