Additional information

Traianopolis in the Sardis conventus was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage under Caracalla reflects a broader pattern of provincial flattery — local magistrates effectively purchased the right to mint by demonstrating loyalty to the emperor. The inclusion of Caracalla's name on the obverse was less a legal requirement than a political calculation, buying the city a degree of imperial visibility it could not otherwise command.

The magistrate name partially preserved in the ethnic — likely a local strategos or grammateus — is the only surviving record of his office.
