Aegae was among the lesser cities of Aeolis — small enough that its civic coinage depended heavily on the prestige of whoever held the local strategia. The double magistrate formula naming both Aurelius Phaeinus and Pollion is unusual for the city and suggests a shared or transitional administrative arrangement, possibly reflecting internal civic politics during Caracalla's long co-reign and sole reign period. Most Aegaean bronzes of this era name a single strategos.
