Obverse description Laureate, draped bust of Emperor Caracalla facing right, with short curled hair and beard rendered in the characteristic Roman provincial style. The effigy displays the emperor's distinctive youthful physiognomy with prominent brow and strong jaw. The legend M AVREL ANTONIN runs around the periphery in Latin characters, framed by a beaded border. The portrait is rendered with careful attention to imperial iconography, befitting the colonial mint tradition of Alexandria Troas.
