Alexandria Troas held the privileged status of a Roman colonia — formally Colonia Alexandria Augusta Troas — granted by Augustus, which gave it the right to issue bronze coinage in its own name rather than under the Greek civic tradition. That colonial autonomy is precisely why the reverse legend reads as an abbreviation of the colony's title rather than a standard Greek ethnic.
