Year 2 of Antoninus Pius's reign — his first full regnal year in Egypt — coincided with the new emperor's immediate effort to distance himself from Hadrian's more abrasive provincial policies. The Alexandrian mint, operating under Roman prefectural authority, resumed normal production after the disruptions of Hadrian's final years, though output attributable to this precise regnal year remains sparse in surviving collections.
