| Reverse description | Harpocrates, the Hellenistic deity of silence and secrets, stands facing front with head turned to the left, draped in a chlamys. He raises the index finger of his right hand to his lips in his canonical gesture of silence, while his left arm bears a cornucopia symbolising abundance. At his feet, a small subsidiary figure kneels to the left with arms outstretched in a gesture of supplication or veneration, a distinctive iconographic detail of this Trallian civic type. The ethnic legend ΤΡΑΛΛΙΑΝΩΝ is disposed around the field. The reverse type reflects the strong local religious traditions and Hellenistic iconographic repertoire favoured by the civic mint of Tralles in the province of Asia. |
