| Reverse description | A river god, personifying a local Bithynian waterway, reclines to the left in the classical manner. In his right hand he holds a rod or sceptre whose tip touches the prow of a ship, referencing the maritime character of Tium on the Black Sea coast. His left arm rests upon an overturned urn from which water flows, the standard iconographic attribute of river deities, and he holds a reed or cornucopia in the same hand. The ethnic legend ΤΙΑΝΩΝ is disposed around the figure in the field. |
