The imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. A circular Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The coin bears a post-ancient suspension hole pierced near the upper rim, indicating later use as a pendant. |

The figure is rendered in a contemplative, scholarly pose befitting the learned subject. The composition reflects Nicaea's civic pride in its most famous native son. A Greek legend is distributed in the field around the central type, and the coin retains a suspension hole pierced near the lower rim. |
