| Beschrijving keerzijde | Tyche, the personification of Fortune and patron deity of Nicopolis, seated left upon a high-backed throne, her figure draped in a long chiton and himation with finely rendered folds visible on the coin's well-preserved central area. She extends her right hand forward holding a patera, while her left arm cradles a cornucopia, the two principal attributes of civic Tyche in Hellenistic and Roman provincial iconography. The Greek legend ΙΕΡΑϹ ΝΕΙΚΟΠΟΛΕΩϹ ('Of Holy Nicopolis') runs around the periphery of the flan. The composition is typical of Epirote provincial bronze coinage struck under the joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus. |
