| Beschrijving keerzijde | A Delphic tripod, symbol of Apollo's oracle, occupies the central field, with a serpent entwined about its legs and the snake's head turned to the left — a type closely associated with the Apollonian sanctuary and widely employed on coinage of Nicopolis ad Istrum and Nicopolis in Epirus. The three legs of the tripod are clearly articulated, and the coiling body of the serpent is rendered in relief. The Greek legend ΙΕΡΑϹ ΝΕΙΚΟΠΟΛΕΩϹ ('of sacred Nicopolis') is inscribed in the lower exergual area beneath the type. The surfaces display an even green patina over the bronze flan. |
