Perperene was a minor Mysian settlement of little strategic weight, but it held the right to strike bronze coinage under its own civic authority during the Trajanic period — a privilege that reflected Roman administrative tolerance for local expression within the conventus system rather than any particular importance of the town itself. The magistrate name preserved in the legend, Epagathos, appears on no other known issue from this city, making the series a snapshot of a single administrative tenure.
The reference III#1697A suggests a sparsely documented type; Perperene's output under Trajan remains poorly catalogued compared to the major Pergamene civic issues of the same period.
