Gaba, a Macedonian military colony in the Jezreel Valley refounded under Herod the Great, minted this bronze during Trajan's reign using its own civic era — year 171 by Gaba's local reckoning, anchored to an epoch likely established under Augustus or early in the Herodian reorganization of the region. The city's coinage is exceptionally scarce, its output apparently limited even in antiquity, and examples surface rarely in either trade or auction records.
