Parium, a Roman colony on the southern shore of the Propontis, retained the right to strike local bronze under Severus Alexander — one of several Mysian cities that continued producing civic coinage while the emperor worked to stabilize a reign he inherited at just thirteen years old following Elagabalus's murder. The colony's status, likely granted under Julius Caesar or Augustus, gave it unusual longevity in the provincial mint record.
The partially illegible obverse legend — reading tentatively as C G I H PARI — reflects the colony's formal title, though the truncated or worn state of surviving examples has left epigraphers arguing over the precise expansion for decades.
