A lighted altar is depicted at her feet, and below the rock a river god swims left, representing the Daisan (Skirtos) river on whose banks Edessa was founded. The composition follows the standard civic reverse type for Edessan bronzes of the Severan period, with the Greek legend of the city distributed around the field. |
