Additional information

Prymnessus was a minor Phrygian city whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader boom in provincial bronze production that followed his victory in the civil wars of 193–197 AD. Having defeated Pescennius Niger and Clodius Albinus in quick succession, Severus consolidated loyalty across the eastern provinces partly through allowing — and encouraging — local mints to strike bronze in his name, giving cities like Prymnessus a rare window of official visibility they rarely enjoyed under more administratively tidy reigns.

The Conventus of Synnada administered a cluster of such small Phrygian towns, most of which left only sparse numismatic records. V.2#27273 is among the few documented die links that confirm Prymnessus operated its own local bronzes rather than relying on Synnada's output.
