| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, with her characteristic elaborately waved and coiled hairstyle rendered in relief. The portrait displays the empress in her customary queenly fashion, with drapery visible at the truncation. The Greek legend encircles the bust, reading ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ, identifying her as Julia Augusta. The flan is somewhat irregular, and the surfaces bear a patina consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the Severan period. |
