| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, rendered in the prevailing provincial style of the Ephesian mint. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features of Caracalla as Caesar or early Augustus, with a laurel wreath crowning the head. A circular Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show the typical dark patina of a circulated provincial bronze. |
