Alexandria Troas, a Roman colony established by Antigonus and refounded under Lysimachus before receiving full colonial status from Augustus, retained the right to issue autonomous bronze coinage well into the Severan period. Under Septimius Severus, the city's colonial title — Colonia Augusta Troas — appears on local issues as a mark of civic pride and standing within the conventus system, not imperial mandate.

The conventus of Adramyteum was one of the judicial districts into which the province of Asia was divided for administrative and assize purposes, grouping Alexandria Troas with neighboring communities under a single circuit court.
