Prusa ad Olympum — modern Bursa, at the foot of Mount Uludağ — was a modest Bithynian city with an outsized pride in its Olympian identity, and its civic bronzes under Philip I reflect a mint operating well within established regional conventions. Philip's reign, though brief, coincided with the empire's anxious adjustment following Gordian III's death on the Persian frontier, and provincial mints across Asia Minor continued issuing civic coinage with relatively little disruption during his five years in power.
The city lost its right to strike autonomous bronze coinage not long after this period, as the third-century crisis progressively curtailed civic minting across Bithynia.
