Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Otacilia Severa facing right, her hair elaborately waved and drawn back in the characteristic Severan style. The empress is depicted with a stephane or diadem adorning her head, and her shoulders are covered by draped garments rendered in typical provincial die-cutting style. The encircling Greek legend identifying her as Marcia Otacilia Severa Augusta runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait, though worn, retains the hallmarks of mid-third century Roman provincial coinage from Asia Minor.
