| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip II facing right, depicted three-quarter from the front, with paludamentum fastened at the shoulder. The Imperial titulature legend ΑΥΤ Μ ΙΟΥ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟϹ ϹΕΒ runs around the periphery in Greek characters. The portrait exhibits the youthful features characteristic of Philip II as Caesar under his father Philip I the Arab. The flan is irregular with a granular green patina consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the mid-third century. |
