| Reverse description | The youthful sea-deity Melikertes-Palaimon, a figure of particular cultic significance at Corinth and closely associated with the Isthmian Games, is depicted riding upon a dolphin leaping to the right. The figure reclines gracefully across the dolphin's back in a posture characteristic of this Corinthian type, referencing the mythological narrative of the boy carried ashore by the dolphin after his death. The abbreviated colonial legend appears in the field, identifying the issuing authority. The coin's heavily corroded and worn surface obscures finer details of the design. |
