| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius facing right, with characteristic long curly hair and full beard rendered in the philosopher-king style typical of his later portraiture. The imperial effigy is presented in right profile, with the laurel wreath clearly indicated atop the head. A fragmentary Latin legend runs around the periphery of the flan, partially legible due to surface wear and the irregular strike. The portrait is executed in the provincial Roman style characteristic of Mysian civic coinage of the Antonine period. |
