| Reverse description | Draped bust of Priapus facing right, with a full beard and wearing a distinctive piled headdress or kalathos adorned with what appears to be a cluster of fruit or grapes at the crown, referencing the deity's association with fertility and abundance. Priapus was a patron deity of Lampsacus and his cult was of particular importance to this city, making his depiction on civic coinage highly appropriate. The encircling legend ΛΑΜΨΑΚΗΝΩΝ identifies the issuing civic authority. The style reflects the provincial Greek engraving tradition of Mysia in the Antonine period. |
