Reverse description Athena standing left, clad in chiton and aegis, extending her right hand to present an owl and holding a long spear upright in her left hand. A large round shield rests beside her, and a serpent coils before the shield in the lower field. The reverse legend ΝΕΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ in Greek script identifies the issuing city of Nicaea. The composition is a standard civic type for Nicaean bronze coinage of the Antonine period.
