Traianopolis was a civic designation applied to a district or deme within Sardis — not a separate city — almost certainly named in honor of Trajan and carrying that title into the reign of his successor. The ΤΡΑΙΑΝΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ ethnic on these bronzes reflects local civic pride tied to that Trajanic honorific, a quirk of Sardian internal organization that makes the issuing authority more complicated than a simple city attribution suggests.
