| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of the emperor Hadrian facing right, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder as seen from the rear. The imperial effigy is rendered in the characteristic provincial style of Asia Minor, with detailed articulation of the cuirass. The obverse legend encircles the bust in Greek characters, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. |

| Additional information |
Traianopolis was a civic designation applied to a district or deme within Sardis — not a separate city — almost certainly named in honor of Trajan and carrying that title into the reign of his successor. The ΤΡΑΙΑΝΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ ethnic on these bronzes reflects local civic pride tied to that Trajanic honorific, a quirk of Sardian internal organization that makes the issuing authority more complicated than a simple city attribution suggests.
