Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Empress Tranquillina facing right, depicted in the Roman imperial portrait tradition with elaborately arranged hair secured by a diadem. The effigy is rendered in low relief consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the mid-3rd century AD. The encircling Greek legend identifying the empress as Sabinia Tranquillina Augusta runs around the bust. The coin displays a heavy green patina with areas of earthen encrustation typical of an excavated specimen.

Reverse description Athena, the patron deity of Nicaea, depicted standing left in full figure, clad in chiton and aegis, extending a patera in her right hand and holding a long spear vertically in her left. A round shield rests against her feet at lower left. The civic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ encircles the type in the field, identifying the issuing city. The composition follows a well-established Nicaean reverse type employed under the joint reign of Gordian III and Tranquillina.
