| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear in three-quarter view, conveying a sense of imperial authority and martial character. The Greek legend encircles the effigy along the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The die work reflects the provincial style characteristic of the Carian mint at Halicarnassus during the mid-3rd century AD. Surface patination is dark and granular, consistent with prolonged burial, with the bust relief remaining partially legible despite wear. |
