| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the rear, the radiate crown with clearly rendered spikes above the youthful imperial effigy. The cuirass is detailed with scale or muscle articulation, and the paludamentum (military cloak) is visible over the left shoulder. A Greek imperial titulature legend encircles the bust in the field, reading from upper left to lower right. The die engraving is characteristic of the provincial bronzes of Mesopotamia, rendered in the vigorous but somewhat provincial style typical of the Edessene mint. |
