Apollonia ad Rhyndacum, a small Mysian city on the river Rhyndacus in the conventus of Cyzicus, continued striking civic bronze well into Gallienus's sole reign — the years after Valerian's catastrophic capture by Shapur I in 260 AD left the eastern provinces scrambling to assert continuity under the surviving Augustus. Many cities in the Cyzicus conventus issued bronze precisely because the central mint was consumed with military coinage; local issues filled the gap in everyday exchange. This piece belongs to a poorly documented civic series, with X#61852 reflecting its relative obscurity in the standard references.
