The composition is rendered in a simple, bold provincial style typical of Epirote civic coinage of the third century AD. The reverse legend ΙΕΡΑϹ ΝΙΚΟΠΟΛΙϹ identifies the issuing city as the 'Sacred Nicopolis,' with the Greek letter Δ serving as a denomination or series mark. The flan is irregular and the strike somewhat off-center, consistent with the hand-hammered technique of the period. |
