In his right hand he holds a long thyrsus, the emblematic staff of his cult, while his left hand extends a cantharus — a two-handled wine cup — downward toward a panther positioned at his feet to the left. The composition is characteristic of Dionysiac iconography frequently employed on the civic bronze coinage of Ionian cities during the Severan dynasty. The ethnic legend of the issuing city is inscribed in the field. |
