Megara's civic bronze coinage under Commodus reflects a city punching well above its political weight — by the late 2nd century AD, Megara had long since ceded regional dominance to Corinth, yet it continued issuing autonomous bronzes throughout the reign, asserting local identity through the magistrate-controlled mint. The city's ethnic inscription, ΜΕΓΑΡΕΩΝ, appears on provincial issues with enough consistency to suggest a deliberate civic program rather than opportunistic minting.
The BM reference IV.1#5060 places this within the SNGCopenhagen/BMC provincial framework, where Megarean issues of this period are genuinely scarce in any condition.
