Coropissus was a minor Cilician city whose civic coinage under Commodus represents one of the few material traces of its administrative existence. The city held the title of metropolis — reflected in the ΜΗΤΡ abbreviation on this issue — a honorific that smaller Cilician communities pursued aggressively during the second century as a means of securing prestige and legal privileges within the Roman provincial hierarchy.
