Reverse description Asclepius, the god of medicine, seated to the left upon a throne or seat, his draped figure rendered in a calm, hieratic pose characteristic of provincial Greek civic coinage. In his right hand he extends a patera, while his left arm supports a tall serpent-entwined staff (the caduceus of Asclepius). The reverse legend, referencing the local strategos Aristolaus, runs around the field, and the ethnic ΑϹϹΙΩΝ identifies the issuing city of Assus. The figure is placed above a ground line, with the legend distributed in the exergue and surrounding field.
