| Reverse description | Confronted busts of the civic deities of Alabanda: a draped and laureate bust of Apollo, holding a branch, facing right, placed opposite a draped bust tentatively identified as Artemis, facing left. The arrangement reflects the importance of Apollo and Artemis as the principal divine patrons of the city. The reverse legend ΑΛΑΒΑΝΔΕΩΝ (of the Alabandeans) arcs around the design, asserting the civic identity of the issuing authority. The style is characteristic of Carian provincial bronze coinage under the Julio-Claudian emperors. |
