Iulia Gordus, a small Lydian city in the Hermus valley, struck prolifically under Caracalla — issuing bronze across a wide range of denominations to serve local commercial exchange. The city's dual ethnic legend, naming both the Gordeni and the Iuliei, reflects a genuine civic duality: a population of mixed Macedonian colonial and indigenous Anatolian descent that had maintained separate civic identities well into the imperial period.
