Alexandria Troas was a Roman colony established by Antigonus and later refounded by Lysimachus before Augustus formalized its colonial status — the COL AVG designation in the city's title reflecting that Augustan grant directly. As a colonia, it held the right to strike its own bronze coinage using Latin legends, a privilege that set it apart from the Greek-titled cities surrounding it in the Troad.
