| Reverse description | Zeus Kataibates ('the Descending,' associated with lightning) seated left upon a throne, holding what appears to be an eagle or sceptre in the extended right hand and a long sceptre in the left. The deity is depicted in the local Syrian iconographic tradition, combining Hellenic and Near Eastern elements. The encircling Greek legend naming the issuing city of Cyrrhus runs along the periphery of the flan. The reverse field is worn but the principal design elements and the seated figure remain clearly distinguishable against the dark patinated surface. |
