| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Antoninus Pius facing right, rendered in the conventional provincial Roman style with the laurel wreath clearly delineated across the brow. The portrait occupies the central field, with the circular Greek legend disposed around the periphery. The die work is typical of Pontic civic coinage of the mid-second century AD, with a slightly rough, high-relief effigy characteristic of local mint engravers. |

| Reverse description | Nude figure of Poseidon standing to the left, his right foot raised and resting upon a rock, holding a dolphin in his outstretched right hand and a long trident in his left. The god is depicted in a commanding contrapposto pose befitting his status as divine patron of the sea, an allusion to the maritime importance of Amastris on the Black Sea coast. The ethnic legend of the city encircles the reverse field. |
