Gadara was one of the cities of the Decapolis, and this issue falls precisely in the year of — or immediately after — the city's submission to Roman forces during the Jewish War. Vespasian passed through the region in 67 AD, and Gadara surrendered without significant resistance, sparing it the fate of Jerusalem. The civic bronze coinage resumed under his name once the new Flavian dynasty was confirmed, making this piece a direct artifact of the city's calculated accommodation with Rome.
