| Beschrijving keerzijde | Apollo standing facing right, rendered in a hieratic, frontal pose, clad in a long chiton or himation with drapery falling in vertical folds. The god extends one arm, possibly holding a branch or patera, while to his right stands a tall flaming tripod, the sacred cult attribute of Apollo and a direct allusion to the god's prophetic role at his sanctuary near Alexandria Troas. The reverse legend COL AVG TROA in Latin capitals encircles the field, attesting to the city's status as a Roman colonia. The composition is typical of Troas civic bronze issues struck under the joint reign of Valerian I and Gallienus. |
